The Bronx, NY - One Killed, Six Hurt in Three-Car Crash on Bartow Ave

The Bronx, NY (July 11, 2025) — A serious three-vehicle crash in the Bronx on Friday evening, July 11, resulted in one fatality and six injuries, according to police reports. The accident occurred around 5:25 p.m. at 2063 Bartow Avenue, near The Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City.

The collision involved a silver Toyota Avalon, a black Hyundai Sonata, and a white Acura RDX. The Toyota, driven by a 79-year-old man, was traveling westbound on Bartow Avenue when it struck the Hyundai and Acura before colliding with a light pole. The Hyundai also collided with an unoccupied vehicle as a result of the crash.

Emergency responders transported all injured parties to Jacobi Hospital. The Toyota driver is expected to recover, while a 71-year-old female passenger in the same vehicle sustained head injuries and later died at the hospital. The driver of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old woman, along with an 11-year-old passenger, were treated and are expected to be okay. The Acura’s driver, a 34-year-old woman, and her two passengers—a 24-year-old man in the front seat and a 31-year-old man in the rear seat—were also hospitalized and are expected to recover.

No arrests have been reported, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased individual. We also wish a rapid recovery to those hurt in this crash.

New York Traffic Collisions

Car accidents happen every day throughout the Bronx, where crowded streets and heavy traffic contribute to a higher risk of collisions. In recent years, the Bronx has seen thousands of crashes annually, many of which result in serious injuries. The combination of busy roadways, dense pedestrian activity, and frequent congestion makes accidents a common and often dangerous occurrence in this borough.

The consequences of these crashes can be severe and long-lasting. Some of the most typical injuries sustained in Bronx vehicle accidents include:

Whiplash and Soft Tissue Damage: Sudden stops and rear-end collisions frequently cause rapid movement of the neck and spine, leading to whiplash. This condition often causes stiffness, chronic discomfort, and reduced mobility, and can worsen if left untreated.

Bone Fractures: The impact of a crash can cause broken bones, particularly in the arms, legs, and ribs. Healing times vary, and many fractures require surgery followed by physical therapy for full recovery.

Head Injuries and Concussions: Striking the interior of a vehicle during a crash can result in head trauma or concussions, which may impair cognitive abilities and require medical evaluation to prevent long-term effects.

Internal Injuries: Trauma from collisions can damage internal organs, sometimes without obvious external signs. Prompt medical assessment is crucial to detect and treat these potentially life-threatening injuries.
