Manhattan, NY (August 20, 2026) – Three people were hurt early Thursday morning when a speeding sports car collided with another vehicle and came to rest against a building on Sherman Avenue near West 204th Street in the Inwood section of Manhattan.
According to reports, the crash unfolded shortly before 5:30 a.m. as a Corvette traveled east on Sherman Avenue at a high rate of speed. Authorities said the Corvette struck a Mercedes-Benz, and the force of the impact sent the sports car into a pedestrian before it stopped alongside a nearby building. The Mercedes reportedly then struck a parked, unoccupied moped that was left along the street.
According to reports, the pedestrian, a 34-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The driver and passenger of the Corvette were also transported for treatment and were reported to be in stable condition as well. Authorities said the driver of the Mercedes-Benz left the scene before officers arrived, and investigators were looking into whether either vehicle had been racing in the moments before the collision. As with any ongoing investigation, no conclusions about fault have been reached, and any potential charges would be allegations unless proven.
