Bronx, NY (August 28, 2026) – Two New York City police officers were hospitalized early Friday after a car slammed into their patrol vehicle on the Bruckner Expressway near East 144th Street in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, sending the cruiser rolling onto its side and setting it ablaze.
According to reports, the crash unfolded at roughly 1 a.m. as the two officers were traveling along the Bruckner Expressway in a marked NYPD cruiser. Authorities said a sedan moving in the same direction struck the rear of the police vehicle. The force of the collision was violent enough to flip the cruiser over and touch off a fire that quickly spread through the wreckage.
Both officers were able to climb out of the burning patrol car before it became fully engulfed, according to authorities, and firefighters who rushed to the scene knocked down the flames a short time later. The two officers were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were listed in stable condition with injuries described as minor. Reports indicate the driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene.
