Bronx, NY (October 30, 2025) – Early Monday morning, October 27, a fatal traffic collision occurred on the Bronx River Parkway near East Gun Hill Road, claiming the lives of two moped riders.
Authorities reported that a black 2019 Mercedes-Benz, driven by 21-year-old Mauricio Neyra Yuyes of White Plains, collided with a white 2015 Volkswagen GTI before veering into two men riding separate 2023 Taizhou motorcycles side by side. The 21-year-old rider, Bronx resident Enrique Martinez, was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old victim, Bronx resident Manual Amarantepenalo, succumbed to his injuries at Montefiore Hospital. Emergency personnel and NYPD officers responded quickly to secure the scene and provide assistance.
Neyra Yuyes remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He faces two counts each of vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and driving while ability impaired. The crash led to partial closures of the parkway while investigators assessed the scene and gathered evidence.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
Common Causes of Traffic Collisions in the Bronx
Traffic accidents in the Bronx are often the result of a combination of driver behavior, roadway conditions, and urban density. Key contributing factors include:
- Distracted driving: Activities such as texting, phone calls, or interacting with navigation and entertainment systems divert attention from the road, reducing reaction time and increasing collision risk. Even brief lapses in focus can have severe consequences, especially on high-speed roads or busy urban streets, where traffic conditions change rapidly and unexpected obstacles may appear.
- Speeding: Driving above the speed limit decreases the ability to stop safely and magnifies the severity of crashes, often resulting in serious injury or death. High speeds not only increase impact force but also reduce a driver’s ability to respond to sudden hazards such as pedestrians, cyclists, or other vehicles abruptly slowing or stopping.
- Failure to yield and aggressive driving: Running red lights or stop signs, unsafe lane changes, and tailgating increase the likelihood of collisions, especially at busy intersections and parkways. Aggressive behaviors like weaving through traffic or racing other vehicles further compound risks and can lead to multi-vehicle accidents.
- Impaired driving: Alcohol, drugs, and fatigue reduce reflexes and judgment, dramatically increasing the risk of catastrophic accidents. Impaired drivers often misjudge distances, fail to recognize hazards, or overestimate their ability to control their vehicle, putting themselves and others in extreme danger.
- Environmental factors: Poor lighting, adverse weather, and congested roads further elevate risks for drivers, pedestrians, and motorcyclists. Rain, fog, ice, or uneven road surfaces can obscure hazards or reduce traction, making crashes more likely even for cautious drivers. Awareness, caution, and defensive driving are critical to prevent collisions under these conditions.
Motorcyclists and moped riders are especially vulnerable due to minimal protection. Even seemingly minor collisions can cause severe trauma, including concussions, broken bones, and internal injuries. Immediate medical evaluation and proper documentation are critical for both health and potential legal claims.
Victims and families affected by crashes may pursue compensation for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. Consulting a New York wrongful death lawyer can help navigate insurance claims and protect legal rights.
