Brooklyn, NY (August 28, 2025) –On Wednesday morning, August 27, an off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a motorcycle crash on the westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near Exit 27 for Atlantic Avenue, authorities said.
The 30-year-old officer, assigned to the midnight tour at the 84th Precinct in downtown Brooklyn, was riding a Yamaha R1 when he was struck by a box truck. The driver of the truck left the scene, and police are investigating whether the driver was aware of the collision.
Video footage obtained from the scene shows the motorcycle traveling in the outermost lanes of the expressway before the crash. Subsequent footage shared online shows the officer lying on the roadway as the motorcycle caught fire.
The officer was transported to NYU Langone Brooklyn Hospital, where, unfortunately, he later died from his injuries. His name has not been officially released pending family notification. Records indicate he joined the NYPD in February 2021.
