Manhattan, NY (July 25, 2025) — A beloved member of the FDNY lost his life in a heartbreaking hit-and-run crash early Thursday morning, July 24, on the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive. Firefighter Matthew Goicochea, 31, was fatally struck while riding his motorcycle, according to fire department officials.
The collision occurred around 3:45 a.m., when Goicochea reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the roadway. Moments later, he was struck by a passing vehicle whose driver failed to stop and fled the scene.
