Queens, NY (June 19, 2025) — A man is in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash late Tuesday night in Ozone Park.
The incident occurred just before midnight at the intersection of 101st Avenue and 116th Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim — a man believed to be in his 50s — lying unresponsive in the roadway. Emergency crews rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.
Investigators say the man was struck by a black SUV heading east on 101st Avenue. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.
Police are working to piece together the circumstances that led to the crash. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
New York Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrian accidents are a serious and growing concern in Queens, where busy intersections and fast-moving traffic put walkers at constant risk. Whether crossing at Queens Boulevard, navigating Roosevelt Avenue, or walking through local neighborhoods, pedestrians face dangers from reckless drivers, distracted motorists, and poorly marked crosswalks.
When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, the consequences are often devastating. Even at low speeds, the human body is no match for a car or truck. Victims frequently suffer:
- Serious Injuries: Including broken bones, head trauma, spinal damage, and internal bleeding—many requiring surgeries, hospital stays, and months of recovery.
- Soft Tissue Injuries & Chronic Pain: Torn ligaments, whiplash, and nerve damage can linger long after the crash, impacting mobility and quality of life.
- Emotional Distress: Survivors may deal with PTSD, anxiety, and fear of walking in public again—especially if the crash was traumatic or violent.
- Financial Pressure: Medical bills, missed work, and unexpected costs can pile up quickly, adding stress during an already difficult time.
In Queens, pedestrian accidents are often caused by negligent drivers who fail to yield, speed through intersections, or drive while distracted. These collisions demand accountability, and that starts with strong legal advocacy.
