Brooklyn, NY (June 18, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision early Sunday morning in Brooklyn left four people injured, including two on-duty NYPD officers.
The crash took place shortly after 2 a.m. at the busy intersection of Avenue U and Coney Island Avenue. According to police, a 25-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Coney Island Avenue struck a Volvo that was heading west on Avenue U.
The force of the impact sent the Suburban into a marked NYPD patrol vehicle nearby. Officials noted that the police cruiser had its emergency lights activated at the time of the crash, though its sirens were not in use.
Following the incident, the 25-year-old Suburban driver was taken into custody by police. Two passengers in the SUV, along with the two NYPD officers, were transported to local hospitals with injuries described as stable. The occupants of the Volvo were reportedly unharmed.
Investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.
New York Traffic Accidents
Brooklyn’s lively streets, historic neighborhoods, and constant flow of traffic create a unique—and often dangerous—driving environment. From tight intersections in residential areas to congested arteries like Flatbush Avenue and Atlantic Avenue, car accidents are an everyday reality in the borough. When collisions happen, the injuries can be serious, and the aftermath overwhelming.
Car crashes in Brooklyn are often caused by speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield, and unsafe lane changes. The borough’s narrow streets, heavy pedestrian activity, and volume of delivery trucks and rideshare vehicles only add to the risks. Whether the crash occurs in a busy commercial zone or a quiet residential block, the physical and emotional toll on victims can be immense.
Injuries from car accidents can range from broken bones and whiplash to spinal trauma and brain injuries. Victims may require long-term medical care, physical therapy, and time away from work. On top of that, many are left navigating insurance claims and financial stress while trying to recover.
