Bronx, NY (September 30, 2026) – A motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and three other people were hurt in a multi-vehicle collision at Crotona Avenue and East 189th Street in the Belmont section of the Bronx on the evening of September 30, 2026.
According to reports, the crash happened at about 8:40 p.m. near the Crotona Avenue and East 189th Street intersection. Authorities said a motorcycle traveling south struck the rear of a sedan, then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a second car head-on before striking a parked vehicle. Four vehicles were involved in all.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with severe trauma to the head and body and was reported in critical condition, according to reports. Two people in one of the cars were taken to a hospital for observation, and another driver remained at the scene. Police said one driver was later taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Any such charges are allegations, and no finding of fault has been made.
We hope those injured are able to make a full recovery.
What injured riders and drivers can recover after a New York motorcycle crash
New York runs on a no-fault insurance system, but motorcyclists are left out of it. State law excludes motorcycle operators from basic no-fault (PIP) benefits, so an injured rider usually needs a NYC motorcycle accident lawyer to bring a claim directly against the at-fault driver for medical costs and lost income. Drivers and passengers in the cars involved may have no-fault coverage for their first bills, and can step outside that system to sue for pain and suffering once they meet the “serious injury” threshold under Insurance Law §5102(d).
Proving another driver was negligent is where these cases are won or lost. A NYC car accident lawyer can request 911 audio, intersection camera footage, and any police chemical-test results before that evidence disappears, and can bring in a reconstruction expert to show how the collision actually unfolded. New York gives most injured people three years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury lawsuit under CPLR §214, and waiting often means losing proof. Compensation in a motor-vehicle case generally falls into two categories:
- Economic Compensation: Covers measurable financial losses such as hospital bills, ongoing medical treatment, physical therapy, lost wages, and reduced future earning capacity.
- Non-Economic Compensation: Accounts for less tangible impacts like pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life.
