Manhattan, NY - E-Bike Rider Hurt in Accident on 2nd Ave near 15th St

Manhattan, NY (July 29, 2025) — A 65-year-old man riding an e-bike is fighting for his life after a violent hit-and-run crash on Tuesday evening, July 29, in Manhattan, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. along Second Avenue near East 15th Street, when a 2024 Nissan Rogue, allegedly driven by a 21-year-old man, slammed into the cyclist with enough force to send him airborne. The impact left the rider sprawled on the pavement with serious head trauma, according to police.

Rather than stopping to help, the driver fled the scene. Police launched an immediate investigation and, within two hours, tracked down the suspect in Brooklyn. He was taken into custody and now faces charges for fleeing the scene of a crash and driving without a valid license.

No updates have been given on the cyclist’s condition beyond the confirmation that he remains in critical condition.

We hope the injured individual makes a rapid recovery.

New York Pedestrian Accidents

New York City’s streets are a constant dance of movement—cars, buses, pedestrians, and now, an ever-growing number of e-bikes. As electric bikes have become a fixture on city roads, they’ve also become a new source of serious traffic accidents, raising complex legal questions and leaving many victims struggling to recover physically and financially.

Unlike conventional bicycles, e-bikes can reach much higher speeds and often share space with both pedestrians and motor vehicles. That combination can lead to high-impact crashes, particularly in dense areas like Midtown, SoHo, or along busy corridors such as Amsterdam Avenue or the Williamsburg Bridge.

E-bike traffic collisions may involve:

  • Drivers struck by e-bikes running red lights
  • Cyclists injured in collisions with cars or trucks
  • Pedestrians hit by e-bikes riding illegally on sidewalks
  • Multi-party crashes involving both e-bikes and vehicles

Victims in these cases often suffer concussions, fractures, internal injuries, or lasting disabilities. But the path to compensation isn’t always clear, especially when e-bike riders are uninsured or when multiple parties share fault.
