Woman Killed in E-Bike Collision at Flushing Ave & N Elliot Pl

Brooklyn, NY (October 8, 2025) – On Monday morning, October 6, a 60-year-old woman was tragically killed after being struck by an e-bike at the intersection of Flushing Avenue and North Elliot Place in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

According to police, Theresa Valenti of Maspeth had just stepped off a New York City bus when she attempted to cross a designated bike lane. A 41-year-old man operating an e-bike, with a 39-year-old female passenger, was traveling in the bike lane and collided with Valenti. Emergency Medical Services responded quickly and transported her to a nearby hospital, where, unfortunately, she was pronounced dead. Both e-bike occupants were also taken to a hospital and remained in stable condition. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

We extend our condolences to the deceased’s family members and hope those injured make a full recovery.

Pedestrian and E-Bike Accidents in Manhattan

Pedestrian accidents involving e-bikes are a growing concern in Manhattan, where busy streets, high foot traffic, and congested intersections create a higher risk for collisions. E-bikes can reach speeds comparable to cars, making interactions with pedestrians especially dangerous. Accidents often occur when pedestrians cross bike lanes without warning, e-bike operators fail to yield, or both parties are distracted by their surroundings.

Manhattan’s dense urban environment, including popular commercial areas and crowded sidewalks, increases the likelihood of serious injuries. Pedestrians struck by e-bikes may sustain broken bones, head trauma, spinal injuries, and soft tissue damage. Even minor impacts can lead to lingering pain, nerve issues, or reduced mobility, while older pedestrians or those with pre-existing conditions are at higher risk for severe complications.

Common contributing factors include operator distraction, such as phone use or inattentiveness, as well as failure to follow traffic signals and right-of-way rules. Poor visibility at intersections, high-speed e-bike lanes near crowded streets, and weather conditions like rain or snow further elevate the risk of collisions.

These accidents often result in emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, and extended recovery times. Victims may also face emotional distress, anxiety about returning to public spaces, and financial burdens from medical bills and lost wages. In some cases, negligence or recklessness by the e-bike operator can support claims for economic and non-economic damages, and even punitive damages if egregious behavior is involved.

Understanding the risks and knowing one’s legal options is essential for pedestrians injured in Manhattan. Consulting an experienced New York wrongful death accident lawyer can help victims pursue compensation, navigate insurance claims, and ensure that responsible parties are held accountable.
