New Castle, NY (May 15, 2025) — A devastating two-vehicle collision on the Taconic State Parkway claimed four lives Wednesday evening after a van veered across the highway’s median and slammed into an oncoming car, according to New York State Police.
The van, which was traveling southbound, unexpectedly crossed into the northbound lanes near New Castle, striking a car head-on. The violent impact caused the van to overturn and catch fire, authorities said.
Three passengers inside the van died at the scene. The driver of the car, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed. The van’s driver survived but remains in critical condition.
Officials have yet to determine what caused the van to cross over into opposing traffic, and the incident is still under investigation.
