Manhattan, NY - Two Pedestrians Injured by Police Car on 112th St

Manhattan, NY (May 29, 2025) – Two pedestrians were injured Monday afternoon when an NYPD patrol vehicle veered into an outdoor dining area in upper Manhattan, striking individuals seated outside a local restaurant.

The incident occurred around 4:10 p.m. along Broadway near West 112th Street in Morningside Heights. According to officials, the marked squad car was heading north with its lights and sirens activated when a southbound yellow cab began making a slow left turn onto West 112th.

To avoid a collision with the taxi, the police vehicle swerved—and instead, plowed into a 63-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman dining outdoors. Both victims were injured in the crash, though the extent of their injuries has not yet been publicly disclosed.

The NYPD confirmed that three officers were inside the cruiser at the time, along with a 32-year-old passenger. Authorities have not shared details about whether the officers were responding to an active call, nor have they released any information about the passenger’s identity or reason for transport.

The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine exactly what led to the incident and whether any procedural errors occurred.

We hope for the full recovery of the injured victims.

New York Pedestrian Accidents

Manhattan’s bustling streets, crowded crosswalks, and constant flow of foot traffic make it one of the most dangerous places in New York City for pedestrians. Every day, thousands of people navigate intersections alongside taxis, buses, delivery trucks, and cyclists—often in fast-moving, unpredictable conditions. With so much activity packed into a compact urban grid, pedestrian accidents are, unfortunately, all too common.

Several factors contribute to the high number of pedestrian injuries in Manhattan:

Congested Intersections: Heavily trafficked areas like Times Square, Midtown, and the Financial District are hotspots for pedestrian collisions, especially during commuting hours.

Driver Inattention: From texting behind the wheel to making illegal turns, distracted or impatient drivers frequently fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians.

Jaywalking and Signal Timing Issues: Short crossing signals, poorly marked crosswalks, and hurried pedestrians can lead to dangerous mid-block crossings and confusion over who has the right of way.

Delivery and Ride-Share Surges: The rise of food delivery services and ride-hailing apps has increased the number of vehicles stopping and starting near curbs, often without warning, putting pedestrians in harm’s way.

Limited Visibility: Between parked vehicles, construction zones, and poorly lit streets at night, many drivers simply don’t see pedestrians until it’s too late.

If you or a loved one has been hit by a vehicle while walking in Manhattan, you may be entitled to significant compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages, pain, and suffering. Recovering from a pedestrian accident is never easy, but you don’t have to go through it alone.
