Brooklyn, NY - Six Pedestrians Hurt in Collision on Courtlandt Ave

Brooklyn, NY (July 3, 2025) – Authorities are actively searching for two individuals following a chaotic hit-and-run incident in Melrose that left six pedestrians injured Thursday morning.

According to police, the incident began around 10:50 a.m. when a black Ford Mustang traveling east on East 149th Street turned onto Courtlandt Avenue and struck a pedestrian. The driver then attempted to flee the scene, but lost control of the vehicle shortly after.

The car jumped the curb, crashed into a scaffolding structure, and hit five additional pedestrians before coming to a stop. The two occupants of the Mustang quickly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon.

All six victims were transported to Lincoln Hospital to be treated for injuries they sustained in the incident.

Officials from the Department of Buildings (DOB) inspected the affected scaffolding and reported that four vertical supports and crossbeams were dislodged in the crash. Although the structure sustained visible damage, inspectors confirmed that the building itself remains structurally sound.

The area has been cordoned off as a safety precaution, and repair crews are on site to stabilize and restore the damaged scaffolding.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact local authorities.

New York Pedestrian Crashes

Brooklyn’s vibrant neighborhoods and bustling streets make it one of New York City’s most walkable boroughs—but also one of the most dangerous for pedestrians. From Flatbush Avenue to Atlantic Avenue and beyond, pedestrian accidents occur all too frequently, often leaving victims with serious injuries and overwhelming questions about what to do next.

With high foot traffic, busy intersections, and constant vehicle movement, even a moment of driver inattention can result in a devastating collision. Whether you were hit while crossing at a crosswalk, walking near a construction site, or navigating a school zone, the injuries sustained in these accidents can be life-changing.

Serious Risks for Brooklyn Pedestrians:
Pedestrian injuries often include traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, broken bones, and internal injuries. Because pedestrians have no protection in a collision, even a low-speed impact can lead to significant harm—physically, emotionally, and financially.

Determining Liability:
In Brooklyn, pedestrian accident cases often involve questions of liability. While drivers are required to yield and remain alert—particularly in areas with heavy foot traffic—pedestrians must also follow signals and use designated crossings. Fault is determined based on the specific facts of the incident, and a thorough investigation is key to building a strong legal claim.

Dealing with insurance companies, medical bills, and time away from work can be incredibly stressful. Having a skilled pedestrian accident attorney on your side can make all the difference.
